#31DC2014 31-Day Challenge - Day 8 - Metallic

I've always liked the combination of silver and purple, so for today's Metallic challenge I used a silver metallic and a holographic purple. Since I rarely wear either metals or holos, I learned two very important lessons from this challenge.

  1. Lesson #1—Metals and Holos Show Ridges
My nails have some pretty serious ridges in them that only got worse after I'd been through chemo. As a result, I buff the ridges down and use a ridge-filling base coat (sometimes two coats). But with these polishes, the ridges still show quite a bit.
  2. Lesson #2—Metals and Holos Are Difficult To Photograph
About six months ago, I invested in a light box and it's made a huge difference in the quality of my photographs (it's also great for photographing my husband's smaller art pieces). But I had a terrible time trying to get this design to photograph well and show the polishes to their best advantage. I reverted to my old method of taking the picture in the sunlight, but I still had problems. In the end, I went with the light box photos.
The colors and decorations I used for this challenge are:
  • China Glaze - Platinum Silver
  • China Glaze - No Plain Jane
  • Fing'rs Heart2Art - Embellish Me Rhinstones
If you can give me any tips about the ridges or the photographing issues in the comments below, I would greatly appreciate it.
